Founded in 2006, Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market is recognised as one
of the best in Europe due to its unique location, high quality exhibitors and bustling atmosphere. Christmas gifts, decorations and festive foods can be found in abundance.

A service of seasonal readings and music by candlelight, moving from darkness to light.

in the magnificent Nave of the Cathedral. Visitors to the Christmas Market and Ice Rink are especially welcome.

Cathedral Christmas Concert
An evening of music, laughter and delight.
This year, they are thrilled to welcome award-winning comedian, Hugh Dennis, star of BBC One’s Outnumbered, Radio 4’s The Now Show and BBC Two’s Mock the Week, who will offer amusing observations on the ups and downs of family life at Christmas time. The evening will be hosted by BBC South Today’s Sally Taylor, with uplifting performances of traditional and light-hearted carols sung by the Cathedral Choir.

With other festive treats - The world premiere of a brand new work, The Donkey’s Tale. Set amidst the wild landscape of Connemara in the west of Ireland, it tells the heartwarming story
of Dillon, an ordinary donkey with an extraordinary dream that takes him on
a journey that will change his life. This stunning animated film with accompanying
musical score looks set to become a firm favourite for all ages, and a fun introduction to the orchestra - it makes the perfect winter outing for all the family.

Chamber Choir Christmas Concert
One of Winchester’s more recent Christmas traditions is the annual Advent concert given by the Cathedral Chamber Choir. This hour of varied music chosen to soothe and inspire is performed in the splendour of the Cathedral and takes a different format every year.
This is a free event all are welcome.
