                 FIRST TIME DRIVER
TIPS TO ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD’S FIRST CAR IS RIGHT
Buying a first car can be one of life’s most exciting experiences for a young driver. But for the parents helping with that first-time purchase, it is also one of the most daunting. Here are some tips to ensure that your child’s first car is affordable, enjoyable, and safe...
BIGGER IS DEFINITELY NOT BETTER:
While you may be helping with the initial purchase, the running costs will likely fall more onto their shoulders. In this respect, it is always wise to ignore the demands for a fast, sporty model and go for something a little more sensible. Small, modern engines coupled with lightweight chassis often result in a nimble, engaging driving experience whilst still keeping those all-important insurance and road tax costs to a minimum.
SAFETY FIRST:
There’s no way around it - young drivers are inexperienced and more likely to have accidents, which means their first car needs to be safe. Newer cars are safer than older ones, thanks to advances in technology and manufacturers prioritising increased safety standards.
Mobile Tyre Fitting at...
We make buying new tyres in Wiltshire easy.
Start by looking for cars with basic safety features, such as antilock brakes (available on most cars, they allow the driver to retain steering control even when braking on slippery surfaces), electronic stability control (available on the majority of new cars, it prevents the vehicle from spinning when the driver turns too quickly), and driver, passenger, and side- curtain airbags (available on most vehicles to help protect occupants in a crash).
IF POSSIBLE, GO NEW:
If you are able to, then purchase a brand new model. Not only is it likely to be safer and more efficient, it can also have modern technical features that simply aren’t available on older vehicles (parking assist, lane assist, and a speaker system that will keep your son or daughter happy). New vehicles are also more reliable and come with a warranty and often with free initial services, preventing you from being called out on rescue duty in the middle of the night.
