From the opening night with the country’s leading current affairs journalist, John Simpson, to the closing party night with salsa band, Grupo Lokito, the Festival is again set to be one of the highlights of Wiltshire’s summer calendar. The programme gets underway on 31 May, spanning the arts with music of every type, drama, poetry, comedy, walks and talks – not to mention a free Fringe.
Music highlights include the chance to dance along to 70s soul group, The Real Thing, and ska Band, Barb’d Wire. Classical music fans can enjoy works from the 18th to the 20th century played by Metamorphoses classical trio. For modern music lovers there is folk from Nick Harper, jazz from Garrick and Etheridge and a 30s nightclub evening with the Moscow Drug Club.
Comedy lovers will not be disappointed either as the Festival welcomes Ed Byrne in a pre-Edinburgh Festival performance
of his new show and Shakespeare Smackdown improvise Shakespeare as never before. The final comedy event is an affectionate tribute to the well loved comedy duo Morecambe and Wise. 17 exciting festival days also include literary events with writer Gareth P Jones, actor Clive Mantle from Holby City and world famous author Fay Weldon to offer entertainment for parents and children alike. Gardeners can meet Bob Flowerdew and historians hear from Clare Mulley about Hitler’s female pilots.
