Light creates the illusion of space. A dark property is of less value than a lighter one, even if it's slightly smaller.
So making your home lighter is a cheap and easy way
to increase the value. Lighting really is transformative,
but done wrong it can be catastrophic. If in doubt, get specific advice for your space from a lighting specialist. Beautiful chandeliers can be the focal point of a room - but choose carefully if you are thinking of resale so as not to alienate buyers. Recessed lighting is also a really good idea - creating a warm ambient glow. Better yet, make sure yours is hooked up to a smart plug and can be dimmed for ultimate control.
Try to look at your home with fresh eyes - what is looking tired? High traffic spaces like stairways, doorways and kitchen/utilities often could benefit from a lick of paint
or new flooring. Doing odd jobs like fixing door handles and painting drab looking walls can make a
significant difference to the price of your home - and it may make you fall in love with it again!
If you do decide to paint your home, it's advisable to go for a
soft neutral palette. Also
invest in good quality,
low toxicity paints
- they tend to be more durable too so you won't have to redecorate in a hurry.

With 69% of Brits not in love with the home that they live in, National Home Improvement Month spent the month of April encouraging the UK to make one change to their home. Whether it be giving your bedroom a fresh lick of paint or undergoing a major house renovation. If you didn't join in this April to make your home the luxury sanctuary you have always dreamed of, all is not lost! You have the chance to win some luxury DIY goodies to help transform your space.
Research conducted by National Home Improvement Month has uncovered that only 10% of the UK frequently make home improvements with the main reasons for not undergoing DIY projects and home improvements being expense and a lack of DIY skills. The research also uncovered that the most popular room for renovation is the kitchen and the most common reason that we make home improvements is to improve home comfort.
If this has inspired you, make sure to add April to your diary for next year's Home Improvement Month and visit their website for more info:
