Discover the Magic of Christmas at the
Weald and Downland Living Museum
Bring your family along to the Weald and Downland Living Museum over this festive period and enjoy a magical and joyous Christmas experience for all ages...
With lots to see and do, you and the family will always be entertained! Here is what you can expect to see and discover this Christmas at the Weald and Downland Living Museum.
The festive Christmas Market is back by popular demand! The Weald and Downland Living Museum will be opening its doors for all visitors to experience and create enchanting memories with their loved ones. Find that perfect gift and enjoy a great day out at the Museum - the bustling Christmas Market sees over 150 stands – selling arts, crafts, food, unusual gifts and much more - ‘pop up’ in their collection of rescued historic buildings and houses, in the award-winning Gridshell building and around other locations on the Museum site. As well as craft and trade stands, there will be festive music and tasty seasonal treats to sample and buy!
Visit the museum on the 1 December to celebrate the life-giving properties of trees. Tree Dressing is a magical occasion for all the family, celebrating the importance of trees in our lives. You will be able to get hands on and make a greenery headdress, turn a jam jar into a lantern, dress the aspen trees as darkness falls and join in with traditional songs and dances around the trees.
Have you been good this year? Wrap up warm and follow the path to meet Green Father Christmas in his grotto. Seated in his chamber, traditionally decorated with seasonal greenery, Green
Father Christmas will be selecting presents from a large wooden chest to give to each child that he meets. Every child can spend time with Green Father Christmas to tell him their Christmas wishes, before receiving a traditional toy wrapped in brown paper and string. There are lots of opportunities to take photos, and each guest can enjoy a hot drink and mince pie whilst waiting to see Green Father Christmas.
From Tudor to Victorian times, a historic festive treat awaits visitors on Boxing Day and Friday 27 December, when the Museum’s traditionally decorated houses will reflect the spirit
of Christmas through the ages. It is a wonderful time to visit the Museum and enjoy the atmosphere of the historic homes, which have been decorated to reflect how this special time of year
has been celebrated over the centuries. Enjoy a warm welcome in the medieval House from North Cray, with its log fire and traditional greenery decorations. The museum’s team will be serving spiced apple juice as well as biscuits!
